Product Review: Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick

I recently received The Amuse Bouche Voxbox from Influenster - and it contained three of the new Amuse Bouche lipsticks from Bite Beauty! There is probably only one thing that rivals my love of shoes and handbags - and that is my love of lipstick!

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick

(I received complimentary products for this post, but all opinions are honestly mine.)

If you've never heard of Bite Beauty, let me tell you a little about their lip products. They use natural and food-grade ingredients, and no petrochemicals. They're also certified gluten-free. The Amuse Bouche lipsticks are crafted by hand in small batches using a low-heat process that preserves the blend of lip-quenching nutrients, vitamins, and omega oils. There are 12 edible oils and a citrus flavor made from fresh pressed fruit in these lippies. And they contain Resveratrol, which is an antioxidant with excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

The entire Amuse Bouche line just became available at Sephora (but it's a VIB Rouge & VIB exclusive right now), and there are a whopping 34 shades!! They've only been available since Feb. 17, and one shade (Meringue, which is a peachy nude) is already sold out!

As I mentioned, I received three shades:
  • Gazpacho - true blue-red
  • Pepper - dusty rose
  • Beetroot - bold berry

I love the look of the tubes - especially the matte finish and the slanted top. The lipsticks themselves appear to be very pigmented - the colors are very vivid.

How is the color payoff? It's been my experience that with most "natural" lipsticks, the color payoff isn't that great. Fortunately, that isn't true with these lippies. The color is pretty saturated. Actually, for me, Gazpacho and Beetroot are too intense. I just don't wear colors that bright/dark. But I love Pepper, which is described as a dusty rose. I would call it a brownish pink/nude, because on me there is very little "rose" or "pink". There are some lighter shades that I'd like to try - like Souffle, which is described as a marshmallow pink, or the one that is sold out already, Meringue, a peachy nude.

Does it last? I wore it over lipliner, and applied it with a lipbrush so that the color intensity was sheered out a bit. I wore it to the theater, drank through a straw, ate half a plate of nachos and half a club sandwich, and two hours later, my lipstick looked just fine without reapplying. So for me, it seems to last fairly well.

I've read some reviews, and it seems people are divided over the citrus scent. Some love it - others not so much. I'm in the latter group. I can't place what it reminds me of, but I tend to associate lemon with cleaning products because I use lemon-scented cleaning products in my kitchen. Luckily, the scent dissipates almost immediately upon applying, so it's not a deal-breaker. Better lemon than old-lady floral scent like some lipsticks. Gag.

Now let's talk about the finish. On me, over the lip liner, it's a satin-matte finish. It goes on very smoothly and there is an easy glide if I rub my lips together. After a couple of hours, the color still looks okay, but it's like my lips have absorbed all of the moisture from the product, and they no longer feel as if they have anything on them. I don't want to say they feel dry, because they don't - but I'm used to being able to feel the lip product on my lips - so it's a weird sensation to not feel something there. My first response is to run to a mirror to check my lipstick. Reapplication doesn't seem to go as smoothly as the first application. It's almost like there is a "build-up" on my lips. I want to try it without a liner, but I'm not comfortable using such a dark color without a liner base. Maybe if I get a lighter shade I'll try it without liner.

  1. Thanks for posting this - it's great to see some swatches before taking the plunge! It's expensive to ship these to the UK but they look like they are super pigmented!
