I've been sharing some great places to eat breakfast in Destin (be sure to check out the links at the end of the post), but today I'm going to share a wonderful place for lunch - The Bay. We ate here for the first time in October of this year - and we loved it. This is definitely a new favorite lunch spot!
As you might guess from the name, this restaurant sits on the bay side of Santa Rosa Beach. The inside reminds of a beachside bar from years gone by. One entire side of the restaurant is open (but covered) so you can see the bay and feel the breeze. For those who prefer indoor seating, that is found on the other side of the restaurant. The coolest thing about this restaurant (other than the food!) is that when I say it's on the bay, I mean it's on the bay. Right. There. They've even got a little sandy area that you can walk down the steps to - and the water is just a few feet away.
They don't have an extensive menu, but I think that allows them to excel at what they do offer. I love Thai food so I ordered the Thai pork tacos. They were delicious, and are my favorite tacos ever. So much flavor! The pork is marinated in an Asian sweet and spicy marmalade, and topped with grilled pineapple. I can't wait to go back and have them again. If you enjoy an ice-cold beer, I recommend the 30A Beach Blonde Ale from the Grayton Beer Company. It's my favorite beer that's brewed in this area. You can find it in most restaurants that serve alcohol, and can buy 6-packs pretty much anywhere beer is sold. We always take some home with us!
Gus had a Bay Burger, which should come as no surprise. He's not an adventurous eater. His usual restaurant order is a burger, pizza, fish, or fried rice. The man knows what he likes! And he liked this burger a lot.
Buddy had the red snapper sandwich, which was the fresh fish of the day. He really enjoyed it. He's more adventurous than his dad (he gets that from me!), but he still likes burgers, pizza, and fish (he gets that from his dad!).
We definitely hit the jackpot in the dessert department. We usually just share a dessert, but they had all of our favorites on the menu, so we each got our own. I had the Peanut Butter Cream pie. Peanut Butter pie is one of my favorite desserts, and this one was right up at the top of my "best" list. It was so light and fluffy! Some peanut butter pies are really dense, and that can be good, too - but I really liked the consistency of this one.
Gus had Crème Brûlée, which is one of his favorite desserts. I didn't try it, but he said it was delicious.
Buddy had the Key Lime pie, which is one of his favorite desserts. He gobbled it down, so I'm pretty sure he loved it! Unfortunately, I didn't get a photo of it. He gets annoyed when I try to photograph his food, and says "Food is for eating, not for taking photos". He just doesn't get it - I need those photos!
We will definitely be coming back here. They have a Sunday brunch from 11-2, so I'd like to try that. We all recommend The Bay - it's a "must-go" for us! (Note: There had been recent heavy rains making the water look a little brown. It's normally not that color!)
