In that post, I mentioned the CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream
- and that's what I'm reviewing today.I picked up the night cream because I wanted something a little "heavier" to leave on my skin overnight - like a moisture treatment. But it had to be something that wouldn't irritate my skin or clog my pores. Since my skin loved the CeraVe PM, I thought the Skin Renewing Night Cream might be a good choice.
Like the lotion, it contains ceramides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid, and it has the MVE® Delivery Technology that provides 24 hour hydration release. But it also contains a unique peptide complex that is supposed to help reduce the look of tired skin overnight.
Ingredients: Purified Water, Glycerin, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Glyceryl stearate SE, Stearic Acid, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Saccharide Isomerate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols, Ceramide 6 II, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 1, Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid, Caprooyl Tetrapeptide-3, Tripeptide-1, Cholesterol, Phenoxyethanol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Carbomer, Behentrimonium Methosulphate, Sodium Hydroxide, Tocopherol, Allantoin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Phytosphingosine, Dextran, Xanthan Gum
The consistency of this product is pretty thick, which can make it tricky to apply to your face without tugging on the skin. I don't like to do a lot of tugging on my face - it sort of defeats the purpose of tighteners and anti-wrinkle creams. So I just put a blob of this product on the back of my hand to warm it up. Once it starts to soften, I dot it on my face and allow it to soften even more. After it has warmed up to the point where it glides easily over my skin, I start to smooth it over my face.
The directions say to "apply in small dots where needed around the face and gently smooth until thoroughly absorbed". I do that, but I translate "where needed" into "all over my face". I also apply a little under my chin and to the back of my hands.
It definitely leaves your skin feeling like it has something on it, but I wouldn't call it "greasy". For sure, it's a night cream and not something you are going to want to put on during the day. But it is fabulous for overnight! I really love it.
My only complaint - and if you have read any of my reviews on products with peptides, you can probably figure out what I'm going to say - it's in a jar! Why, oh why? I realize it's a thicker cream, but when peptides are exposed to the air and light, they lose their efficacy. I did keep the inner seal, and I replace it immediately after scooping out what I'm going to use - but an airless pump bottle would be so much better! I actually have some airless pump bottles here, and I may just transfer mine.
To give you an idea of how much I use - about a pea-sized amount is enough for my face, and then another pea-sized amount is enough for under my chin and the back of my hands. I can't remember if I mentioned this in my review of the PM lotion - but these products are fragrance-free - and that is so important to me. My skin is very sensitive to fragrance, especially during the seasons when my allergy triggers are high.

So if you're looking for a nighttime moisturizing treatment, I recommend this as a reasonably-priced option that is fragrance-free. My skin is sensitive and breakout-prone, and even with the thickness of the cream, it hasn't caused any clogged pores or breakouts. Just be sure to recap it ASAP or transfer it to an airless pump bottle. (Update 6/15/16: When I purchased my second jar, I transferred the contents quickly to an airless pump bottle. It works great! It's so much easier to control the amount that I dispense, and the cream is actually easier to apply!)
