Product Review: Ole Henriksen Protect The Truth™ Sunscreen

I recently purchased Sephora's Sun Safety Kit for 2013. It was filled with 19 different products related to sun safety - several of which were sunscreens. Today, I'm reviewing one of those sunscreens: Ole Henriksen's Protect The Truth™  Vitamin C SPF 50+ Sunscreen.

Some of the issues I usually face (pun intended, LOL!) when using a sunscreen on my face are the "Big 4":
  • makes my face shiny/greasy
  • causes breakouts and/or clogged pores
  • makes my eyes sting and water
  • fragrance is either irritating to my skin or unpleasant to my nose

These are pretty typical "complaints", so you've probably experienced some of them yourself. So when I try a new facial sunscreen, these are the things I'm watching for - I want a product that protects without causing those issues.

I've tried Ole Henriksen products in the past. As a rule, I like them. However, the facial moisturizers with SPF that I've tried have not worked that well for me. As a matter of fact, I almost didn't try this product!

This particular product is marketed as a sunscreen rather than a facial moisturizer with SPF. However, it contains Ole Henriksen's Solar Active Complex™ - which is multiple ingredients that protect the skin from the environment as well as UVA and UVB rays. One of those ingredients is Vitamin C, which is a great antioxidant for the skin. It has other active ingredients as well, so it's really like you get an anti-aging skin treatment with your sunscreen.

Consistency: The product has a fairly thick consistency - which worried me at first - but it's surprisingly lightweight when applied. It's easy to apply and absorbs quickly.

Fragrance: Smells like oranges - yum!

Big 4: no extra greasiness, no clogged pores/breakouts, no stinging, great scent!

Ingredients (from Sephora.com):
-Solar Active Complex™: Protects skin from UV Stress which can cause pre-mature aging, increases skin's UV tolerance and fights photo-aging. Strengthens the barrier function to improve moisture retention, protects against environmental aggression, and stimulates the skin's natural repair function. Made with heat and light activated marine enzymes, fruit cell extract, and powerful antioxidants.
-Sunspheres: This polymer boosts SPF protection so the sunscreen is as lightweight as possible while offering maximum UV protection and has the additional benefit of providing skin with a smooth, soft texture.
-Vitamins A and E: Work synergistically as powerful antioxidants.
-Pepha® Tight (micro algae): Firms skin and boosts collagen production.

Repurchase? I would definitely consider repurchasing this product. I like how it feels on my skin, I love the scent, and I feel good about all the anti-aging ingredients. I think the price is on par with similar products. This product is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation.
