Tuesday Brewsday: Darkness Brewing - Bellevue, Kentucky

This week on Tuesday Brewsday, we're at Darkness Brewing in Bellevue, Kentucky!

Bellevue is a neat little town. There are a lot of small businesses, including restaurants, bakeries, Darkness Brewing, and many others. It's very easy to get to from anywhere in northern Kentucky or downtown Cincinnati.

Darkness Brewing is on Rt. 8 - which is Fairfield Avenue in Bellevue. Once you enter into Bellevue, the brewery is about a half mile down on the right. You can park on the street or turn right just past the brewery, and park in the Fifth Third bank lot that sits up behind the Darkness building.

Buddy and I made our first visit in December 2017. We both like dark beer, so we figured we would stop by on his day off - while Gus was occupied elsewhere.

I do want to say right away - even though they specialize in dark beer, they always have other options on tap. There is usually at least one lighter brew, as well as a cider (guest tap), and one other guest tap.

The inside of the building is fairly small, so I could see it being crowded on a busy night. We were there in early evening on a cold weekday, so it wasn't crowded. There is a garage door that opens to outdoor tables which adds some space that they will surely need in warmer weather.

The walls on the inside sport some pretty nifty artwork:

Buddy and I each ordered a flight of four beers. I really enjoyed their Christothor Blonde Ale, Bellevue Common, and Once in a Blue Moo (chocolate blueberry stout). Buddy was digging their IPAs - Citra Anomaly and Darkness Hoppy Dairy-Air.

My favorites*:
  • Christothor (Blonde Ale)
  • Bellevue Common (Kentucky Common Ale)
  • Once in a Blue Moo (Chocolate Blueberry Stout)
  • Man on the Moo (Milk Stout)
Buddy's favorites*:
  • Citra Anomaly (Black Session Ale)
  • Darkness Hoppy Dairy-Air Milkshake IPA
  • Once in a Blue Moo
  • Man on the Moo

Another thing I really like is that they almost always have a food truck/tent out in front of the brewery for a few hours. Some that you'll see there: Roger That BBQ, Empanadas Aqui, BG's Grill, PretzelFuls, Texas Joe's Tex Mex Tacos, California Tri Tip, Packhouse, SEA Cuisine, Cheese N Chong, etc.

They also have special events like Star Wars Day, Getting Bent - Yoga & a Pint, various Trivia nights, Beer & Cupcakes, Paint and Pint, and more!

We'll be coming back once we have some warmer weather. I've been wanting to do one of the Beer & Cupcakes events, but they've either sold out too quickly or were on a day we were busy. I'm hoping we'll be able to make it some time this year!

Here's where and when to find them:
(they do have a website, but it wasn't working properly when I wrote this post)
