We visited Cigar City in December 2017. We flew into the Tampa International Airport and Lulu's boyfriend, Bruce, was in the area visiting his parents, so we met him at Cigar City to sample some brews.
Off a short hallway to the left are the restrooms, some of the barrels they use to make their barrel-aged brews, and beyond that, the brewery. If you walk straight ahead, you enter the main tasting room - with several tables and another bar.
There is a food truck on site daily. The hours are 5pm-9pm on weekdays, 12pm-6pm on Sundays, and on Saturdays there are two trucks - one from 11am-4pm, and the other from 4pm-10pm. You can see the schedule here.
I think everyone ordered a flight (except Bruce), because there was a lot of tasting going on! I regret that I didn't get more photos, but it was fairly busy for a weekday in December. I'm always uncomfortable snapping photos when a place is crowded. I don't want people to feel like I'm photographing them. Maybe I should just wear a badge that says "blogger". Ha!
My favorites*:
- Lactobacillus Guava Grove (American Sour Guava Ale)
- Tampa-Style Lager (Helles)
- Maduro Brown Ale (English-style brown ale)
- Torcedores Series - Hans Loves Takagi (pale wheat ale)
- Florida Cracker White Ale (witbier)
- Thing to Do in Mango, Florida (American Pale Ale)
- 1821 Golden Ale
- Cafe Con Leche (Milk Stout with Cuban Espresso)
- Margarita Gose
- Florida Man (Double IPA)
(Cigar City Maduro Brown Ale)
I was a little surprised at how much I like the Maduro Brown Ale. As you know from my list of preferences, I usually don't like anything that has a coffee taste. I think I first had it in a can at Lulu's apartment. Then I had it at The Craft Bar, where it was on tap - soooo good with a burger! On that trip, we ended up going to the liquor store and buying a 6-pack to take home. So, of course, I had it again at the Cigar City tasting room. I just don't get that strong of a coffee flavor from it. (Gus says I'm crazy.) I get more of the chocolate (although not as much chocolate as from Young's Double Chocolate Stout) - and it's just so smooth and easy to drink.
They have a lot of merchandise, but we were in a bit of a hurry, so we didn't get anything. Next trip, for sure! You can also buy merchandise online. They have glasses, shirts, hats, signs, dog treats, pens, magnets, keychains, and more!
