Did you know that there are actually people who like to iron? I'm not one of them.
But I learned a long time ago that the features and quality of an iron can make a world of difference. So when Hamilton Beach contacted me to see if I was interested in trying their Durathon® iron, I thought it would be great to give it a try and see how it compared to my current Rowenta iron.
Here's what the website says about the new iron:
- 25% more continuous steam power than the leading competitor
- 10 times more durable than traditional nonstick
- Scratch-resistant durability
- Superior glide performance
- 10 year limited soleplate warranty
- Electronic control panel
- 3-way auto shutoff
- Anti-drip
- Vertical steam
- Self clean
- Retractable cord
But how does it perform under real-life conditions?
The Durathon® iron is a great-looking iron and is easy to use. There is an electronic control panel - you just press a button to change the settings.
It's easy to fill, easy to steam and spray, easy to adjust the amount of steam, and easy to clean.
And it has a retractable cord! I've had so many irons that were ruined because the cord was damaged by repeatedly wrapping it around the iron. The retractable cord eliminates that issue - and makes storage so much easier.
The two things that are extremely important to me in an iron are lots of steam and smooth glide. If an iron glides easily over the surface of the fabric and has a good amount of steam, it cuts the ironing time in half and removes wrinkles better.
The Hamilton Beach Durathon® iron not only met all of my requirements - it exceeded them! This iron has more steam than I've ever seen - and I love it! Plus it easily glides over a variety of fabrics. I used it on a variety of craft and sewing projects, and it has become a permanent fixture in my craft room.
Another thing I used the iron for was steaming wrinkles out of hanging curtains. I've never owned an iron that generated enough steam to remove wrinkles from hanging fabrics. But the steam from the Durathon® iron works great on hanging fabric!
Honestly, this iron works just as well as my $100 Rowenta iron with a retractable cord - at half the price! The only thing about the iron that "bothers" me: when you have the steam on max and you're ironing horizontally, there is a loud "burst of steam" noise when you set the iron in an upright position. Not a big deal, but it is noisy.
And now, you can have one of your own! Hamilton Beach is offering you a chance to win a Durathon® iron!
