Happy Memorial Day!!

Memorial Day weekend brings to mind hot dogs, ice cream, and spending time with family and friends. Because we are blessed enough to live in the USA, we enjoy a multitude of freedoms. Freedoms that others only dream of...

Memorial Day weekend brings to mind those men and women who gave their all to preserve those freedoms. For themselves - for us - and for future generations. They - and their families - deserve to be honored and remembered.

I am the proud daughter, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, niece, and cousin of such men. My dad, uncles, and cousins served in the Army and Marines. My father-in-law served in the Navy during WWII. One of my grandfathers served in the Navy during WWII and the Marines during the Korean War, while my grandmother raised three little ones on her own. My other grandfather received a Purple Heart. He was in the Army during WWII, was captured, and spent time in a concentration camp. My grandmother was at home with two little boys, not knowing where he was or if he was alive. He was rescued by Czech troops - some of which were women. To the day he died, he was adamant in his belief that women absolutely should be allowed to serve on the front lines.

This weekend, as we celebrate, let's be sure to take a moment to remember those who have protected and served our great country. Thank a veteran for every freedom you and your family enjoy. That freedom came at a great price - and if you're like me, someone else paid it for you.

God Bless our military and their families - and God Bless America!
