Beauty & Nutrition Tips for Spring

It's going to be shorts and sandal season before we know it, ladies! I won't even mention bathing suits yet because it's 50 degrees as I'm typing this. But we're all going to be showing a lot more skin soon, and Gwen Lewis is back today to give us some beauty and nutrition tips for spring!

Beauty & Nutrition Tips for Spring - nurture and pamper yourself with these suggestions to get yourself ready for warmer weather, barer skin, and spring festivities!

Spring is an exciting time of year. Everything is fresh and new, and beauty abounds. Make sure your makeup, skincare, and nutrition are keeping up with the change of seasons. Winter can leave us feeling tired and colorless, and the dry weather can do a number on our skin, hair, and attitude. Nurture and pamper yourself with these suggestions to get yourself ready for warmer weather, barer skin, and spring festivities.

Dry Skin and Hair

Running the heat and staying inside all winter has probably dried your skin and made it rough and scaly. This was fine when you were bundled up under tights and pants, but with Spring comes shorts, skirts, and dresses. Your skin needs some TLC. Use a coconut oil sugar scrub to exfoliate rough skin and leave your birthday suit hydrated and silky smooth. Couple this with dry brushing your skin every morning, and your skin will glow. Protect it daily with a good sunscreen.

Be sure to include your feet when tending to your dry skin. They’ve been hiding in boots all winter and need to be sandal ready! Treat yourself to a pedicure, including eliminating calluses and a pretty spring color on your toes.

Your hair has also suffered during the winter. Make a simple hair mask with olive oil and tea tree oil to help bring it back to life. Use a quality conditioner every time you shampoo and try to minimize heat-intense treatments. Instead opt for natural beachy waves or easy updos to prevent further drying and damage.

Update Your Makeup

It’s also time to update your makeup. Get rid of anything old and expired. Choose lighter shades of lipstick or opt for a natural shiny lip balm. Trade in your dark blush for a lighter shade paired with a bronzer for a sunkissed look. Eyeshadow should be light and shimmery. Go for a more natural look instead of the harsh, more winter-like smoky eye approach. Choose a fine point eyeliner and be more precise for clean definition instead of a dark, bold look. Choose fun spring colors for your toes and fingertips, as well.

You Are What You Eat

Remember to take care of your body inside and out. Nourish it with fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables you can find right in your garden. Not only will the scale thank you, your skin will benefit as well. Use cucumbers to help reduce puffiness under the eyes. Eat red peppers and lemons boosts your vitamin C levels, stimulating collagen production and firming your skin. Beets help give your skin a rosy hue, while carrots make it glow and and help reduce wrinkles. Pumpkin seeds are packed with zinc and help stimulate new cell growth and control oil production. Spinach has anti-inflammatory properties and helps flush out toxins. Pair foods like these with plenty of water to keep your body well hydrated and nourished.

With just a little effort and attention, you can have a fresh, updated look to match the new season. Your skin will have a healthy glow, your makeup will compliment the new spring styles, and your body will welcome the warmer weather and all it entails.
