Peel-off masks are usually a little harsh for my skin, but I do like hydrating masks or masks that help smooth out texture. A few months ago, I picked up the small travel/sample size of Origins Original Skin™ Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay from Sephora. Rose clay is my favorite type of clay. It works well for sensitive skin, because you get the benefits of a clay (drawing impurities to the surface) without stripping oils. I think it's great for mature skin, and works especially well for mine.
This product is a little different in that it's not just a mask - it's also a scrub. It uses jojoba beads for exfoliation, which is what my favorite facial scrub, Acure Pore Clarifying Facial Scrub, uses. They're perfect for sensitive skin - or someone who is using tretinoin.
Here's how I use it:
I wash my face as usual, then apply the mask. I apply it pretty thinly - just enough so that I can't see my skin through it. I leave it on for about 10 minutes, and by this time, it's pretty much dried and feels tight. Now comes the cool part! I wet my fingers/hands and dampen the mask as if I was going to remove it, but I rub in a circular motion. This loosens the mask and now you're utilizing the jojoba beads as a scrub! I keep adding water a little at a time until the whole mask is almost back to the original consistency, then I give my face a good but gentle scrub! You can then rinse it off with water, but I usually use my konjac sponge (rinsing it out 3-4 times) to sort of give my face one last massage as I remove the mask.
In the photo below, you can see a close-up of the jojoba beads in the mask:
It makes my skin feel so soft, gets rid of any flakes from the tretinoin, and gives me a nice glow without being too harsh!

The little pack is enough to do 3-4 masks. I also applied it to my neck and décolleté, so I only got 3 uses, but I'm sure if you only used it on your face, you could get at least 4 uses. The small one is 0.34 oz. and the full-size is 3.4 oz. I love that they offer the smaller size so you can try it before plunking down a bigger chunk of change.
If rose clay isn't your thing, they have several other options (I haven't tried these yet, so I can't say how well they work), and they are all available in the $4 size, so they're inexpensive to try:
- Clear Improvement® Active Charcoal Mask - deep clean & visibly reduce pores
- Drink Up™ Intensive Overnight Mask - nighttime mask to quench skin's thirst
- Out of Trouble™ 10 Minute Mask - rescues troubled skin by sopping up oil & sloughing off dead cells
- Drink Up™ 10 Minute Mask to Quench Skin's Thirst - rich mask to quench skin's thirst
- Dr. Andrew Weil For Origins™ Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Face Mask - non-irritating, redness-reducing mask
Update: I purchased this in the full size and I still love it!!!
