Product Review: Simple® Cleansing Facial Wipes

I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again - I would love to find a cleansing facial wipe that:
  • easily removes my makeup, including waterproof mascara
  • doesn't require a lot of rubbing or tugging on my skin
  • isn't too dry or too wet

Is that too much to ask? Evidently. Ha! I don't want to use wipes for everyday makeup removal or cleansing, but they're nice when I have a late night and just don't want to go through my usual routine, or when I'm going on a short trip and don't want to pack all of my usual cleansing products.

I've tried a lot of facial cleansing wipes, and so far, most have been either too dry to remove much of anything, contain so much fragrance they burn my skin, or they leave so much makeup behind I might as well not bothered. To be fair, I do wear waterproof mascara, often use long-wearing foundation, and always wear sunscreen - all of which can be difficult to remove. My daughter likes the Simple® Cleansing Facial Wipes, so I thought I'd give them a try.

I picked mine up at the local Kroger store for around $4. They were on sale, and I also had a coupon. There are 25 wipes in the package. What my daughter likes about these - and why I was willing to try them - is that they are made for sensitive skin. No fragrance, color, and alcohol-free! The label also says that they will remove waterproof mascara (yay!) and that they are made with Aqua-Lock™ technology to keep the wipes fresh (this refers to the resealable package). I appreciate the heavy-duty seal since I don't use the wipes on a daily basis. As an extra precaution, I do store the package inside a ziploc bag.

The wipes are soft and a nice thickness for removing makeup. They also were wet enough that I felt they might actually remove my makeup without me having to rub and tug at my skin. You ladies who are around my age know what I'm talking about! We're already battling the fine lines, wrinkles, and skin that is losing firmness - we don't need to be pulling and tugging on it to make it worse!! When I took these photos, I had been wearing Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation and Maybelline Full 'N Soft Waterproof Mascara. Both require a makeup remover before cleansing, so I was interested to see if the Simple wipes could remove them.

As you can see in the photo above, the wipe did a pretty good job! I was impressed! I only gently wiped my face after allowing the wipe to rest against the makeup for a few seconds. I wanted to see how much (if any) makeup was left on my skin, so I used a cotton pad with Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water, and wiped it once over my face.

As you can see in the photo above, there was just a little bit of foundation left, and I think using a second wipe would solve that problem. Now that I know that, if I use these when I travel, I will just be sure to use two wipes if I'm not planning to wash my face. Honestly, I'm okay with that because I believe that makeup removal and cleansing are two separate steps anyway. I'm normally a two-step person, so why would I be any different when using cleansing wipes - one to remove makeup, one to cleanse?

I didn't experience any burning, stinging, or irritation with these wipes either. Love that! I do see why Lulu likes them. I'd like to try their Micellar Makeup Remover Wipes, but I haven't been able to find them locally - they're always sold out - which is a good sign, I suppose.

So, overall, I'm pretty impressed with these cleansing wipes. I'm not going to call them my holy grail wipes, but I do believe they are the best that I have tried so far. If you have a favorite facial cleansing wipe, please leave the name in the comments so I can try them (if I haven't already)! And be sure to connect with me on Snapchat - you can always send me a Snap of them!
