Product Review: SkinAgain® Positive Energy Skin Care

When SkinAgain® contacted me about a collaboration, I admit that I had never heard of their company or products. I was intrigued when I discovered that they are a bit unique in that they combine their products with positive energy and affirmations for a holistic approach to skin care.

All opinions are honest and strictly my own.

As some of you may remember from past bemoaning blog posts, I have sensitive, breakout-prone skin (because apparently the fine lines and loss of elasticity that accompany aging aren't enough). I have to be very careful about the ingredients in products - especially added fragrance. I was very pleased to see that the SkinAgain® products are vegan, gluten-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, fragrance-free, and cruelty-free. I opted to try two of their products: Youth, which is for anti-aging (1 oz. $64), and Rescue, which is a calming, healing lotion (3.4 oz $38).

SkinAgain Positive Energy Skincare - Youth

Youth contains five peptides to help boost collagen, restore skin's elasticity, and reduce the appearance of fine lines. It also contains ingredients which can help fade age spots and hyperpigmentation. You can see the full ingredient list for Youth here. The affirmation for this product can be seen on the bottle in the photo below.

This product is packaged in an airless pump bottle - yay! An A+ for packaging! As you can see from the photo below, it's a slightly off-white lotion. The consistency is fairly lightweight with a somewhat serum feel. It's very easy to apply - gliding easily over the skin, so you can use small amounts. I've been using it for just about a month now and haven't had any issues with irritation or breakouts. At first, I was applying twice daily as suggested, but I noticed that my face was getting a little oily midday, and my mascara was smudging under my eyes. I decided to restrict my use to nighttime only, and that has been working out well. So for me, it's just a little too moisturizing for daytime use - even though I only used a tiny amount. For someone with drier skin, this probably wouldn't be an issue. It might not even be an issue for me if it wasn't 90 degrees outside.

I haven't noticed any big changes in the skin on my face, but the Youth has been great for the area where my neck meets my shoulder. I use self-tanner in the summer, and it either tends to makes the skin in this area look very crepe-y or just makes it more noticeable. I've tried so many different lotions, creams, and anti-aging potions over the years, but nothing has seemed to make a difference. After applying the Youth product, the skin immediately looks hydrated, and with twice daily use over the past month, I can see an overall improvement in the texture of the skin.

Pros:
  • vegan, gluten-free
  • paraben-free, sulfate-free
  • fragrance-free
  • packaged in an airless pump
  • didn't clog pores or cause breakouts
  • didn't irritate sensitive skin

Cons:
  • A bit pricey at $64 for 1 oz.
  • The bottle is quite large, which is deceiving since it only holds 1 oz. of product.
  • There is no way to judge how much product is left inside the bottle. I realize that there shouldn't be any light reaching the product, but if there was a label, you could peel back an edge to see how much was left and know when to reorder.

SkinAgain Positive Energy Skincare - Rescue

The Rescue product contains Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8 to soothe and calm skin - especially skin that is recovering from procedures like peels, radiation treatments, or waxing. The full ingredient list for Rescue can be seen here. The affirmation for this product can be seen in the photo below.

This product is packaged in a soft tube with a flip cap. I've accidentally dispensed way more than I intended on several occasions with this packaging because the product is a thin lotion, and the opening in the cap is fairly large. Tip: Be sure to hold the tube with the top up before squeezing the tube - and squeeze the tube very gently! The product itself, as I mentioned, is a thin white lotion, as you can see in the photo below. The consistency is a bit thinner than that of the Youth product. It's also very lightweight and absorbs well, so it leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. The directions say to apply 2-3 times per day.

I know this may sound odd, but I have a spot on my left elbow that is slightly dry and gets very tender. I've tried buffing it and using all sorts of lotions and creams on a regular basis, but nothing has ever healed it or made it feel better. I've even tried prescription creams. It occurred to me to try the Rescue lotion on it, and it immediately felt better - and soft! So I started using it on my elbow twice daily, and after a month, the spot feels perfectly smooth and normal! I have been trying to heal this spot for years! I haven't had any cosmetic procedures lately, and my skin is way too sensitive to wax, so I can't attest to the use of Rescue after those, but it does seem to be very gentle and healing.

Pros:
  • vegan, gluten-free
  • paraben-free, sulfate-free
  • fragrance-free
  • didn't irritate sensitive skin
  • heals irritated skin

Cons:
  • Packaging could be better. Tube is so soft that you dispense product without meaning to, and opening needs to be smaller so less product comes out.

If you look at the ingredient list of both products, the "base" is the same - they share 26 ingredients. The differences are that in addition to those 26 ingredients, the Rescue product only contains Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8 and Disodium EDTA, while the Youth product contains Oligopeptide-68, Cyathea Cumingii Leaf Extract, Rumex Occidentalis Extract, Vibrio Alginolyticus Ferment Filtrate, and Artocarpus Heterophyllus Seed Extract. The natural scent of both products is essentially the same. I wouldn't call it a particularly pleasant scent (at least not to my nose) - it's rather "earthy" - but it does dissipate quickly. And I will take an earthy, natural scent over added fragrance any day.

Just a couple of other things about SkinAgain®. I already mentioned the positive affirmations, but they also infuse positive energy into holographic stickers, using advance technology called Dermavibe®, which are placed on every bottle of product. Cool, right?

And they offer an unconditional, 100% money back guarantee. If you're not happy with any of their products for any reason, just contact them within 30 days, and they will refund your purchase price minus the cost of shipping!
