How to Choose the Best Accessories for Your Face Shape

How to Choose the Best Accessories for Your Face Shape

Did you know that choosing the right accessories can accentuate your best features? Gwen Lewis is back today with some tips on choosing the best accessories for your face shape!

Tips on How to Choose the Best Accessories for Your Face Shape!

Choosing the right accessories is more than just a fashion statement. Sometimes deciding on accessories like jewelry, scarves, and sunglasses involves making the best decision for your face shape. Having this insight can even help when it comes to gift-giving for birthdays or holidays. The right accessories can easily accentuate your facial features and bring out your natural beauty. Here are some of our best tips on how to choose the right accessories for your unique face shape.

Round

Round faces typically have a similar width and length throughout, resulting in well-proportioned features. For round faces, choose accessories that bring more length to the face. For example, choose long, dangling earrings and necklaces. Also, rectangular or square shaped jewelry can bring a nice contrast for a balanced look. Avoid accessories that add width to the face such as choker necklaces or large, round accessories that may not be as flattering for this particular facial shape.

Oval

As a common face shape, oval faces are often long, but all features are still well-balanced. This soft shape is most flattered by jewelry and accessories that are more structured in shape. These will include accessories with strong lines, angles, or geometric characteristics. Such accessories will bring a welcomed contrast that highlights the delicate lines of an oval face. Since oval faces are usually lengthier in appearance, avoid long earrings or necklaces that may further accentuate this face’s shape and structure.

Tips on How to Choose the Best Accessories for Your Face Shape!

Diamond

The diamond face shape is very similar to the oval. It is typically identified by a narrower forehead and chin with wider cheekbones. To highlight the features of this shape, create width towards the upper face, chin, or neckline areas. For instance, choose large, bold necklaces with gemstones or brilliant diamond cuts. Alternatively, wear large, daring eyewear to add poise to a diamond-shaped face. The key here is to bring in the glam and drama when it comes to this face shape. Therefore, do not shy away from bold accessories that can make this shape even more beautiful.

Square

Those with a square face shape tend to have stronger jawlines with structured foreheads and hairlines. Try round or otherwise curved accessories to bring out the best features of this face shape. For instance, large hoop earrings are a great choice, as are necklaces of medium length. Also choose soft, delicate materials that help to diminish the strong lines that characterize this face shape for the best results.

Heart

Heart-shaped faces typically wider at the top half of the face to the cheekbones. This face shape meets at a pointed chin. For a heart-shaped face choose long earrings and layered necklaces that accentuate the neckline area. Tear drop accessories like earrings can also bring in contrast for this face shape by bringing width to the chin area. When it comes to the neckline, fill the neck with brilliant statement necklaces or scarves, that help to emphasize but also bring symmetry to the narrow chin area.

Not only can accessories be chosen based on the latest fashion trends, but they can also be hand-picked according to your unique face shape for a flawless look. Overall, know your face shape before you purchase your next accessories. The right accessories can bring out your features for a fashionable new you!

5 Tips for Keeping Jewelry Untangled While Traveling

5 Tips for Keeping Jewelry Untangled While Traveling

Since my daughter, Lulu, moved to a different state, Gus and I have been traveling a bit more than usual. Like most women, I insist upon having my makeup and jewelry (and plenty of shoe options) with me. Jewelry can be tricky to pack, and today I have a guest post from Heather Lomax offering some tips on keeping your jewelry untangled while traveling!

5 Tips for Keeping Jewelry Untangled While Traveling

Traveling with jewelry can be a challenge because it seems as though at least one piece is always getting tangled or lost. But there are several ways you can pack earrings, necklaces, and bracelets in a way that keeps them knot-free while you’re traveling.

Tired of having your jewelry tangled into a huge ball of knots when you travel? These 5 Tips for Keeping Jewelry Untangled While Traveling will solve your problem!

1. Drinking Straws (And Not for Drinking)

This particular tip has become a favorite among travelers everywhere. To keep your necklaces from getting knotted and tangled with other jewelry, all you need are a few minutes and a package of drinking straws with bendable ends.

To get started, simply count out the same number of straws as you have necklaces to place in your suitcase or travel bag. For each of the necklaces, take a straw and thread your necklace through until it comes out the other end. Clasp the necklace and voila! No more tangles.

2. Save Those Containers!

Many travelers simply throw their jewelry into a random compartment of their luggage, but you can turn everyday containers into makeshift travel jewelry boxes. Some options that you can find in your own home range from pill boxes and bottles, mint and candy tins, glasses cases, or even travel soap dishes.

Now place your jewelry into the container of your choice and then place that in your suitcase. Mint and candy tins work well for stud earrings and collapsible bracelets, while pill boxes with the days of the week work well to hold necklaces. Just match the size of the jewelry you’re bringing along on your trip to a similarly-sized box or tin, and you’re ready to go.

3. Plastic Wrap Isn't Just for Food

Because necklaces and bracelets tangle so easily, here’s another great way to keep them ready to use at a moment’s notice after you unpack. And like the last tip, this method involves something you’ll probably already have on hand: plastic wrap (the press-and-seal type works best for this).

Start by tearing off a strip of plastic wrap that’s long enough to lay your necklaces, bracelets and any other jewelry you’d like to keep organized. Then, take your jewelry and lay it out on the wrap, taking care to stretch necklaces straight across. Finally, take a second piece of plastic wrap and cover the jewelry pressing it down so that it’s firmly in place. Your jewelry should now be protected from any movement during your trip.

4. Bags and Buttons and Pouches, Oh My!

Ziploc baggies are another item that work wonders for storing individual pieces. Just choose a size that corresponds to your items and seal them up. Stud earrings can be placed together in the same bag.

Similarly, jewelry pouches can be used for the same result. You can purchase a pre-made one, or if you need a DIY option on the cheap, simply take a piece of cloth, put some jewelry in, and tie it up with a ribbon or a piece of string – just make sure it’s a secure knot!

To keep better track of your stud earring pairs, take any buttons with more than one hole, and slide a pair of earrings into each button. Hold them in place with backs and use your Ziploc baggy or cloth pouch for safekeeping.

5. Don't Forget Towels

Similar to the cloth pouch, you can use a hand towel to hold even more jewelry, but this way, they won’t move around in transit. Lay the towel out flat and place each piece of jewelry with a little space between each one. When you’re finished, carefully roll up the towel and secure the ends with rubber bands, hair ties, or string.

Christmas gift ideas for her!

Christmas gift ideas for her!

Black Friday. Cyber Monday. I'm exhausted - how about you? The holidays will be here before we know it - can you believe Christmas is less than 3 weeks away?

(This post was sponsored by OnecklaceAll opinions are honest and strictly my own.)

I do about 90% of my holiday shopping online. I hate traffic, crowds, and standing in line, and lately it seems like my local stores never have what I'm looking for anyway. Shopping online saves me time, money - I can almost always find what I'm looking for - and I don't even need to get dressed!

While there are always a few new items that catch my eye each year, I usually fall back on the tried and true when I'm choosing gifts for the ladies on my list. Something I think you can never go wrong with is jewelry, and I think most women feel the same! Who doesn't love to open a gift to find a little sparkle and bling?

Layered necklaces are trendy right now, and I love them! One of my favorites is this sterling silver starry sky necklace - it is so pretty! It's versatile, too. I can wear it as-is, or I can add an extender to make it longer, so it really works with a lot of different tops. Priced at just $39.95, it would be a perfect gift for ages 18-81!

If you're looking for a more personal gift, engraved jewelry fits the bill! The Roman numerals on this engraved bar necklace are my wedding date. I love it so much! I've received a lot of compliments on it. I have the sterling silver version ($39.95), but you can also choose 24K Gold Plated ($44.95), or Rose Gold Plated ($44.95). Not only can you customize it with any date, but you can also choose the length and style of the chain.

This necklace isn't engraved in the traditional sense. Instead, the letters are delicately laser-cut into the metal. I love it with the box chain!

There are so many necklace options at Onecklace! Fingerprints, Braille, signature (handwriting), birthstones, names, dates, different languages - and the prices are reasonable. As I mentioned above, most necklaces give you the option of choosing the type and length of the chain. I love the linked hearts necklace and this chevron birthstone necklace. They also have some of the cutest Mother jewelry I've seen! You may remember my post from April about the Family Tree of Life necklace that coordinates with my tattoo. It's one that I find myself reaching for quite often!

They also have bracelets, rings, and earrings. Orders are shipped free worldwide (first class mail in the US) and you have 60 days for returns or exchanges. Each piece of jewelry comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, and you have the option of adding a gift box and bag for $4.95.

You can take advantage of their Christmas sale now through December 24, 2016:

  • Save 20% off orders over $200 with code XMAS20

Save, Spend, Splurge: 2016 Fall Booties

Save, Spend, Splurge: 2016 Fall Booties

I'm so happy that booties are still trendy this fall - I love them!!

Save, Spend, Splurge: 2016 Fall Booties - You don't have to spend a fortune to look modern and wear the latest trends! I'm sharing less expensive alternatives for fall 2016 ankle booties!

I picked up several new pairs of booties last year, so I don't know if I'll buy any this year or not. (I bought some before I even finished writing this post!) While I like to be "modern", I'm not terribly wrapped up in being too trendy. If a trend works for me, I'll go for it, but I have no problem passing on the ones that don't work for me.

With that said, I noticed that all of the styles of booties I purchased last year are still available this year! I'm going to share a few of my favorite styles at different price points, because you don't have to spend a lot to have a modern look!

The one pair of booties that I wore the most last year was a pair of black suede wedge pull-ons from Nine West. I picked mine up at the outlet store during a sale for just $50 (original price was $99), and not only are they comfortable, but I always get compliments on them. Nine West changed theirs from a plain pull-on to a zipper with a bow, so my exact bootie is no longer available. The pricey version is the Lanvin Chelsea at $725. The Payless Rosie is very similar and currently on sale for $44.99. It's also BOGO time at Payless, so you could pick up another pair of shoes for 50% off - great deal! (If you buy online, they have a code for an additional 10% off - ZZ10FUN.)

The pull-on wedge booties is popular this fall. Payless has a $45 alternative to the $725 Lanvin version!

Another style that is really popular is the western-style bootie, and there are so many versions of this! Some are very casual with low block heels like cowboy boots, some are dressy with stiletto heels, and there are a ton of styles in-between. I have a pair of the dressier ones in light grey suede with a few grey metallic leather accents, but I would like to have a more casual pair. I do love the look of the rag & bone "Harrow" style, which is what I've featured below - but I don't love the $495 price tag. Fortunately, there are a lot of similar styles at a lot of different price points. The Indigo Rd. Sigrid booties are faux suede and faux leather, and the reviews say they are comfy but run slightly narrow.

The western-inspired bootie with a stacked heel is popular this fall. Indigo Rd has a $50 alternative to the $495 rag & bone version!

A couple of other versions: Vince Camuto Faythe at $149. I love Vince Camuto! I haven't tried these particular boots, but reviews say they run small so size up; and Aerosoles A2 Invitation for $60 which reviews also say run a bit small and narrow so size up.

The western-inspired bootie with a stacked heel is popular this fall. Aerosoles has a $60 alternative to the $149 Vince Camuto version!

And one last pair that is definitely inspired by the rag & bone "Harrow" in black leather is the Karol bootie from XOXO - I found it at several stores in black faux leather, but Famous Footwear has it on clearance for just $30 (reg. $69)! You know I couldn't resist that, so I bought them! I actually bought 2 sizes and will keep the size that fits best. They have free returns to the store, and I saved $5 off the flat-rate $5.95 shipping by signing up for emails. I'll post an update once I get them. I was kind of sad that they didn't have a taupe suede version because I already have several pairs of black boots/booties, but I couldn't resist them for the price.
(Update: Super-fast shipping from Famous Footwear! But unfortunately, the store that sent the size 7 boots sent the wrong boots! I called right away to see if I could get the size 7 sent before I left for vacation, but the size 7 was sold out. The size 6.5 fit lengthwise, but they do run a bit narrow, and since they are faux leather I was concerned as to whether they would stretch with wear. Customer service was wonderful. They gave me an immediate refund for the size 7's even though I hadn't mailed them back yet, plus they sent me a shipping label to send them back free of charge. They offered to do the same for the size 6.5 if I didn't want to keep them, but I decided for the price, I would go ahead and give them a try. So customer service also refunded my shipping charges! Great customer service, Famous Footwear! I've only worn the boots once, but I felt like they were less snug after I had them on for a couple of hours. I'm going to try wearing them around the house with some thicker socks to stretch them a bit more. They're really cute!)

The western-inspired bootie with a stacked heel is popular this fall. XOXO has a $30 alternative to the $495 rag & bone version!

Another popular style is a modified combat/hiking boot with a block heel. I'm a fan of this style, too. I picked up a cute pair last year at the Nine West outlet - again, during a sale, so I got a great deal - and I love that the tops of mine can either be left up for taller boot or folded over for a shorter look. I don't see mine on the Nine West website, so that style must be discontinued. The Frye Sabrina 6G boot is a full leather (including the lining) lace-up version that is $328. The Timberland Earthkeepers Glancy is less than half that, with a full grain leather upper, at $130.

The lace-up combat/hiking bootie with a block/stacked heel is popular this fall. Timberland has a $130 alternative to the $328 Frye version!

And if you're really looking for a bargain, DbDk has a leatherette version at just $30.99.

The lace-up combat/hiking bootie with a block/stacked heel is popular this fall. Timberland has a $130 alternative to the $328 Frye version - and DbDk has a pair for just $30!

The one style that is trending this fall that I'm not particularly fond of is the open toe bootie. I don't know why I don't like them - maybe I just haven't found the right pair. I have other open toe shoes, but I just don't like the open toe booties. That said - I realize that some of you may love the style, so I'm going to show some of the different price points for that as well.

The perforated Majorca peep-toe booties by Toms are cute, and they're fairly reasonably priced for suede leather at $98. Target has a similar pair in their Journee Collection - the Emm faux suede peep-toe bootie priced at $50. Honestly, with only that much difference between the two, I would probably just spring for the real leather because it would last longer.

The open toe bootie with a stacked heel is popular this fall. Journee has a $50 alternative to the $98 Toms version!

I did find one other pair that was slightly similar, with the cutwork just at the tops. The Rayce peep-toe booties by Report are also faux leather, but they are currently on sale for just $30 at Famous Footwear (orig. $70). So that's quite a steal!

The open toe bootie with a stacked heel is popular this fall. Journee has a $50 alternative to the $98 Toms version - and Report has a $30 alternative!

Are you loving booties for fall and winter? Which ones are your favorites?

Save, Spend, Splurge: 2016 Favorite Spring Shoes

Save, Spend, Splurge: 2016 Favorite Spring Shoes

Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm all about shoes. I check the trends, but if I don't like them, I ignore them. I don't let anyone tell me what I should or shouldn't wear. Please yourselves, ladies! Life is too short to be worried about what other people think!

That said, we all have a budget or a price range that we're comfortable spending on shoes. For me, that price range is usually well below my means. Why? Well, the main reason is that I like a deal, so I shop around to get more for my money. And that's not to say that I don't buy good brands or even some designer brands - I just shop for deals. If I splurge, it's on something that will stand the test of time - like classic pumps. If I go for something super-trendy, I don't mind buying it at Target or Payless because it only needs to last one season.

But today I'm here to talk about some of the spring shoes styles that are trending for 2016, and of course, I'm sharing the ones I like! I've gathered a save, spend, and splurge version of each, so there's something for every budget. Keep in mind that for this post, when I say "splurge", I'm just talking about the $85-$160 range. We're not going crazy with the super-expensive options!

infographic with 12 pairs of spring shoes

Lace-up Flats/Ghillies
If you've seen some of my recent posts here or on Instagram, you know that I'm a huge fan of the lace-up flats or ghillies. Soooo cute!! I have a couple of pairs, but my favorite pair is actually one of the ones listed below - the Anne Klein Ottila (in the center). They are so cute, and soooo comfy!! Lace-ups are just so versatile - you can wear them with anything and they're adorable. I always get lots of compliments when I wear mine. Tip: Don't wear them if you're going shoe shopping because it's a pain to take them off and on!

three pairs of Lace-up flats

Save: Payless Fiona Pointed Row Ghillie (available in nude & black) sale price $29.99 (and is currently buy one get one 50% off). If you have the Payless app on your phone, you can usually use a coupon code on top of the BOGO deal to save even more. (no longer available)

Spend: Anne Klein Ottila Lace-Up Flats (available in tan, black, and cobalt) $49.95. Look for a coupon code and/or sign up for DSW emails and to be a Rewards member. I had a $20 off $49 coupon that I used when I bought mine, so I only paid $29.95 - and these are the comfiest shoes ever! (no longer available)

Splurge: Kendall + Kylie Sage Pointy Toe Ghillie Flat (available in blush & black suede, and black leather) $139.95. These are cute, but I'll be honest - I don't like them as well as the Anne Klein pair! (no longer available)

Espadrille Wedges
Espadrille wedges are always popular in the summer, and I don't see this ever changing. They were popular 30 years ago, and they're still going strong. You can find them in just about any style, any heel height, and from super casual to business casual. I really don't think you can do an espadrille wedge any more formal than business casual (JMO). I don't personally own any of those pictured below, but I do have a similar canvas and jute pair from Nine West that are fabulous. (Picked those babies up at an end-of-season sale for just $14!)

three pairs of espadrille wedges

Save: Target Ella Espadrille Sandals (available in tan & black) $29.99 - love these! I would've bought these in a heartbeat if they had my size at my local store! I tried on a half size smaller and they were really cute and comfy - just a little too short. I may end up ordering online. (wedge options at Target)

Spend: Michael Antonio Galah Wedge Sandals (available in natural, black, & whiskey) $59 (wedge options at Zappos)

Splurge: Michael Kors Darci Wedge Sandal (available in Luggage or Optic White Vachetta) $145 (other Michael Kors wedge options at Zappos!)

Slides
Let me just tell you up front that I am not a person who likes a lot of embellishments on my shoes. I love a statement necklace, sparkly earrings, or a sequin-encrusted dress - but please don't give me a bunch of sparklies on my shoes. However, when I saw the slides from Target (pictured on the left) and the Nine West sandals at DSW (center), I thought they were so cute! I would totally wear either one!

three pairs of flat sandals

Save: Target Merona Catalina Slide Sandals (available in numerous colors/prints) $22.99 - my favorite is the multi-colored shown in the picture above. I tried them on in the store, and they run pretty true to size. I was hoping they'd have a BOGO sale, but even at full price, they're a great deal. (no longer available but here are other slide options at Target!)

Spend: Nine West Adobo Flat Sandal (available in tan/red & black/navy ) $49.95 - I think these are really so cute! I tried these on in the store, too. My foot is a little wide, so if there is a band where this one is, and it's placed too high or if it's too thin, it looks weird on my foot. Luckily, on this particular sandal, the band is good. I tried these on with skinny jeans and they look adorable! (no longer available, but here are other slide options at DSW!)

Splurge: Matisse Cosmo Slide (black) $85 - I'll admit I don't like this option as well as the other two, but I had a difficult time finding something similar in the "splurge" range. Plus, the footbed on these doesn't as comfy as the others. (No longer available, but here is a link to other slides at Zappo's!)

d'Orsay Flats
One of my long-time favorite styles of shoes, whether they're flats or pumps, is the d'orsay. I love the cutaway on the sides - I think it's just so feminine! I don't own any of the specific shoes shown below (yet!), but I do own several different pairs of d'Orsay flats. Love them!

three pairs of d'Orsay flats

Save: Merona Celine Ballet Flats $22.99 (black, coral, denim, navy/white stripe, black/natural print) - I love the navy stripes! I've tried these on, and they do seem to run true to size. I didn't buy them yet - I was trying to wait for a sale (and hoping they don't sell out of my size in my favorite style in the meantime) but even at full price, they're a steal! (No longer available, but here are some other d'orsay flats at Target!)

Spend: 14th & Union Sabine 2 d'Orsay Flat $39.97 (black & white stripe) - These are similar to the "save" version, and also cute, but I think I still prefer the ones from Target! (No longer available, but here are some cute options!)

Splurge: J.Crew Sloan Plaid d'Orsay Flats $158 (blue-black plaid; 30% off with TIMETOSHOP) -  I have to admit that I think these are to die for - how cute is that bow? But even at 30% off, they're still $110.60. Since they're not a shoe I can wear with a lot of things, I'll have to pass at that price. Maybe I'll get lucky and find them on clearance at the outlet (yes, please!).

And that's my favorite spring shoe roundup for 2016! I've already pulled all of my spring/summer shoes out of storage and started to go through them to see what fits (I've lost enough weight over the past couple of years that many of my shoes are now too big - which makes me very, very sad), what is outdated, what needs repairs, what I'm tired of, and what just needs to be tossed. I'll replace those I get rid of with a few new styles.

What's on your list of "need to have" shoes for spring?

Mother's Day gift idea & discount code!

Mother's Day gift idea & discount code!

If you've been around {enjoy the view} for very long, then you know that I love jewelry. And I especially love jewelry that represents a special person or event in my life - or my Scottish heritage. Jewelry that tugs on my heart strings is going to be worn a lot more than anything else in my jewelry collection.

When Onecklace.com contacted me about a partnership, I had a really difficult time choosing a necklace! They have so many lovely pieces, all of which can be customized, and many which can be personalized. I ended up choosing the Sterling Silver Family Tree of Life Necklace.

 round family tree necklace

I love the quote on the second disc: "Family like branches on a tree, we all grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one."

tree of life necklace on table

As some of you know, I recently got two (more) tattoos. One is a Celtic Tree of Life on my left forearm, and the other is a Celtic heart on my left wrist. The tree represents my family, both past and present, and there is a heart in the center of the trunk which represents my children. The heart on my wrist is for my husband. So you can see why the family tree necklace spoke to my heart!

Celtic tree of life tattoo

This particular necklace isn't customized with names, initials, or birthstones, but I was still able to choose the chain style and length. I prefer a slightly longer necklace, so I went with a 20" length (other length choices are 14", 16", 18", and 22") and the box chain (the other chain option is a rolo chain).

necklace

As you can see, it's a beautiful piece! I love that the discs are a nice size- not too big, but big enough to really be noticed. They measure just a little over an inch in diameter. As I mentioned, my necklace is sterling silver, so each piece is stamped with ".925".

silver tree of life necklace

When you place an order with Onecklace, each item is made to your specifications. They have necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings, and offer four different materials: sterling silver, 24k gold plated, 14k gold, and 14k white gold (not all types of jewelry are available in every material). The item also come in a gift box with a certificate of authenticity, and you can choose to include a gift bag if you like.

necklace in a gift box

They offer a best price guarantee, free shipping worldwide, and you have 60 days for returns and exchanges! They can also personalize your jewelry in other languages as long as you can send them a sample of the writing and letters.

Some of the other beautiful necklaces that caught my eye:
This Silver Engraved Swirl Mother Necklace can be engraved with up to six names- I love the heart!

necklace with children's names

This Sterling Silver Signature Bar Nameplate Necklace is so special! You could have your child's handwriting, your significant other, a parent or grandparent - the possibilities are endless!

Mother's Day is coming up soon, so if you're looking for a gift (or need to drop a hint for your own gift!), Onecklace is a great place to shop. There are a lot of really cute options for graduation gifts, too. And to make your shopping experience even better, Onecklace.com is offering my readers a 10% discount on any order with the code enjoy10!

Happy shopping!

Marled knits were hot this winter, and that's not going to change heading into spring! We're still going to see them, just in lighter weights. I think this is a trend that pretty much everyone can wear - it's just a matter of finding the style that works for your body. I love this marled cardigan from Gap pictured below (similar)! It would be perfect to throw on for those chillier spring days/evenings. It's a longer style, but not so long that a vertically challenged person like myself couldn't wear it.

POINTED TOES, LACE-UP FLATS/GHILLIES
I adore shoes with pointed toes. I think they're slenderizing and feminine - plus I have small feet, so I don't mind if they look a few inches longer. I also love the look of lace-up flats and ghillies - I'm thrilled that they're trendy right now! I purchased the pair below at Nordstrom back in December when they were on sale for half price. They're by Topshop, and they're still available in limited sizes, at full price. I talked more about them in this post.

I just ordered these from DSW using the coupon they mailed to me for $20 off $49. So I was able to get them for just $29.95, which is a great deal, and I really like Anne Klein shoes. You don't typically think of suede as a fabric for spring, but it's actually another trend for 2016 - plus the light neutral color and the overall "lightness" of the shoe makes it perfect for spring.

If you're not into pointed toe shoes or just find them too uncomfortable, you can do the lace-up with an open toe, like these wedges, or these heels.

FRINGE
Fringe is still in, ladies. Even though I've grouped it with my favorites, I think fringe is one of those things that can easily be overdone. Right now I own three things with fringe. A crossbody bag, a holiday sweater with a little hem fringe, and a pair of strappy heels with a small patch of fringe that lays flat on the front. So when I do fringe, it's minimal, and only on one item. That's something to keep in mind with any trend - you don't have to run head first into it or be literal about it. Use your own interpretation of it and make it work for you. This is the bag that I have - unfortunately, it's no longer available, but there are similar ones available here, here, and here:

These are the shoes that I have, except that mine are black (they're no longer available in either color, but these are similar) :

So if you don't think that you can do fringe, maybe just try it in small doses. Maybe a handbag with a fringe tassel like this or this. It updates your look to include the trend, but doesn't overwhelm you and scream "I just made a country-western movie" - although if you did, that's awesome.

HALF-MOON BAGS, SADDLE BAGS, AND BAGS WITH CHAINS
I have a lot of handbags, but I don't any in a saddle bag shape, so that might be on my list for spring. I do have a Michael Kors bag with the heavy chains, and I also have a large half-moon bag, so I'm good there. I know the Chloé 'Drew' crossbody is "the" bag right  now - and I do love a nice bag - but I am not ever paying over $1850 for a handbag. You can find these styles in all price ranges, so no worries there. Here's a saddle bag from Target for just $24.99 (no longer available) that also incorporates the chain detail: (similar)

And a simple Vince Camuto saddle bag for $158 (I like this one!):

This is my Michael Kors bag with the chains. Gus bought it for me at Macy's last spring. It had a pretty decent price reduction - it was originally $198, but was marked down to $128. I love it because the leather is like butter - and, of course, it's pink!

If you see a trend in handbags that you love, don't ever be dissuaded by the prices of the ones they show you! Trust me - there will be similar ones in every price range. While I love handbags (they're my second passion, right behind shoes), I'm kind of picky about which ones I splurge on. I take good care of my bags, so they last for many, many years - but some trendy bags aren't functional enough for me. If I can't carry it enough to justify the price, I'm not going to splurge. The saddle bag? Too small for everyday for me. I don't like how the opening is narrow either. It's a bag I would carry when I don't need all of the items in my regular bag. So I would either wait and grab one when it was marked down or I would find a well-made one that wasn't as expensive. The point is - you can do handbag trends in any price point.

SNEAKERS
Who doesn't love a nice comfy sneaker? I love my Chucks. And I think anyone from 1-100 can wear them! I picked up a pair of the white Converse "Shoreline" slip-ons from Nordstrom back in November when they were on sale for $39.98.(Nordstrom Rack is having a Converse sale right now for members - just sign up for their free emails - sale ends Sunday 2/28)

I also like these Adidas NEO Advantage Clean VS sneakers ($54.95). I've been looking for a pair of plain white leather lace-up sneakers, and these seem to fit the bill (I did end up getting these, and I love them!):

Sneakers are another trend that's pretty easy to do at any price point. There are a lot of different styles available, too. These white sneakers from Payless are similar to the ones pictured above, but are priced at $17. I have a fondness for white, but I've seen some snazzy navy ones, too - like the Adidas Gazelle in suede.

ORANGE
Okay, I have to admit that orange is not one of my best colors. But this is where I'm going to do my own interpretation of the trend. Orange doesn't have to be "Orange is the New Black" jumpsuit orange. It can be coral or peach. I love coral, and it looks good on me when I get a little faux tan. If solid orange doesn't work for you - wear a mixed print, or carry an orange handbag or wear orange shoes. The large half moon bag I mentioned that I have is orange. It's not a bag I carry often, but I got it for a steal, and it's an unusual design, so I like it. You could also add orange/coral/peach in your earrings, necklace, or bracelet. Heck, you could even just have orange/coral/peach nail polish! I love these little, inexpensive pops of orange:

TRENDS I'M IGNORING & MY TWO CENTS
There's no way you'll ever see me in cropped flares or paperbag waists. Yes - those are trending this spring! If it doesn't flatter you, why would you want to wear it? Just pick the ones that work for you and ignore the rest. Just because it's a trend, doesn't mean it's your trend. It's all about finding the things that look good on you. When you look good, you feel good, and that boost of confidence puts a smile on your face. It's amazing what that feeling can do for the rest of your day!

What trends are you looking forward to and what ones do you hate?
