My top ten favorite last-minute gifts!

Are you finished with your Christmas shopping? Or are you like me, and no matter how early you think you're finished, you always seem to think of one or two gifts you need to pick up at the last minute?

Here are my top ten (in no particular order) favorite last-minute gifts:
  1. Restaurant gift cards - who doesn't like to go out to eat? For free? And a lot of places give you a second card for $5-10, so you can keep that one for yourself! Or if you shop at Kroger and have a Kroger Plus card, you get quadruple points for gift cards, which turn into gas savings for you! And don't think that this doesn't work for kids - they love using coupons at McDonald's!
  2. If you need to buy a gift for a crafter, try a gift card from Hobby Lobby, Michael's, or Jo-Anns (or your local craft store). I guarantee that they will love it. I know I would!
  3. For men, I like gift cards to Home Depot, Bass Pro Shops, Best Buy, or Dick's. I think tickets to a sporting event would also be a great gift and easy to pick up at the last minute. Movie tickets would work for men as well as teens.
  4. Can you tell I love gift cards? I know some people don't like to give them because they're not "personal", but I'm telling you - I put a lot of thought into the gift cards that I choose - and I am never, ever offended when I receive one as a gift. I think they're one of the best gifts around! So I also recommend "generic" gift cards like Target, Meijer, Walmart, or Amazon. Those places sell everything!
  5. If you have a booze lover on your list, you can always pick up a six pack of beer, a bottle of wine, or a bottle of some sort of spirits. If you want to get something a little more expensive, add on glasses - pilsner, mugs, wine glasses, shot glasses, etc. If you give Corona or tequila, you can also include a few limes. You get the idea...
  6. Candles! I love, love, love candles! Yankee has some great deals, but I love the candles at Bath & Body Works. They come in all sizes, too. Another thing you can find just about anywhere (even the grocery store, Meijer, Walmart, etc.) are the little scent cubes that you melt in a tart warmer. Pick up a tart warmer, too, if you need a little more.
  7. If you have a jewelry lover on your list, they're probably hooked on the bracelet craze (I know I am!). Old Navy has some great looking bracelets under $10. If you're lucky enough to have a Charming Charlie's nearby, well, you can find anything in that store - and they group it all by color!
  8. More gift cards!! How about Sephora or Ulta? I don't know a woman alive who couldn't find something to love at either of those stores. And they have a lot of stuff for men, too. (I'm not sure Gus would appreciate a gift card for there, but he does like cologne, so maybe stick to that for the men, LOL!)
  9. Book lover on your list? How about a gift card to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Joseph-Beth? If you're looking to spend a little more, how about a Kindle or Nook? I have a Kindle Fire, and I use it everyday. Every. Day. Without fail. One of the best gifts Gus ever bought for me!
  10. Music lover? Amazon or iTunes gift card! Not sure if they want to download their music? They can still buy CDs with an Amazon card - or you could go with Target, Walmart, Best Buy, or a local store that sells CDs. You can also get an Ipod shuffle for $49, a nano for $149, a Touch starting at $199, or an iPod classic for $249.
Other ideas for people (I'm thinking parents/grandparents) who already have everything they need and are impossible to buy for:
  • a potted plant that they can plant outside in spring
  • a voucher to take them to dinner, a movie, or a show
  • a subscription to a magazine (or other monthly item) so they get something every month
  • something pertaining to a hobby
  • framed photos of kids/grandkids
What do you usually buy for last-minute gifts?
